Larry Bird eliminates Michael Jordan from the playoffs (1987)

Bird taking Jordan out in the playoffs - for the second straight year. Here he finished with 32/14/6 (52%FG) and completely takes over the 4th quarter.
Glen Rice scores 40pts vs Rockets & Bucks | SHOOTING CLINIC!
Переглядів 3,6 тис.5 років тому
First game is from December 9, 1993 Second game was played January 31, 1997 (Rice actually has 43 points here) One of the greatest shooters in NBA history - a prolific scorer who didn't rely on cheap fouls or gimmick-y travels.

4/11/1982: Off-shooting night for LB. www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/198204110PHI.html That never stopped him from impacting a game though. This was Philly and Boston's final H2H before the playoffs - as expected, it came down to the wire.
Larry Bird - 39/17/10 vs Spurs, HUGE 3rd qtr (1988)
Переглядів 15 тис.5 років тому
Great all-around game from the Legend. Bird came out 'slow' here playing the boards and looking for teammates but caught fire in the second half. Scoring 18 in the 3rd with a flurry of tough shots, he finishes the game with a 39-point triple double. Alvin Robertson was a renowned defender and Bird's primary cover here; Larry torched him.
Knicks eliminate Pistons, 1992 Playoffs (Last game of The Bad Boys)

If you're an 80s/90s NBA fan, this series had everything you wanted - defense, physicality, perseverance and heart. Not to mention loaded with HOFers. In other words? The antithesis of today's game. You could argue of all series' from that era, this was the most physical one. A certainty however was the game being a changing of the guard - a "bad boys' last hurrah and birth of the 90s Knicks.
Dominque Wilkins - 46pts vs. Jazz, DUNK on Mark Eaton (1987)
Переглядів 7 тис.6 років тому
Monster game from Nique here, excelling with both power and grace. Atlanta beat the Jazz in an OT thriller. I'm still amazed at how nimble Nique was before the achilles tear. You could play 2 centers under the basket and he'd jump through them to score...or DUNK rather. Game Log: www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/198712190ATL.html
Magic Johnson - 43/10/6, Gm 4 and 43/7/8, Gm 5 vs. Suns (1990 Playoffs)

This Laker team ran on fumes and had no shooters for Magic to really make Phoenix's defense pay. Unreal b2b individual performances though, and in a series, maybe his best from a scoring standpoint. www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/199005130PHO.html www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/199005150LAL.html

January 29, 1991 - Knicks vs. Clippers (Patrick Ewing w/ 44pts)
Переглядів 4,2 тис.8 років тому
Your typical 90s game saw everything: defense, passing, shooting, lots of dunks and big men dominating. Nothing different here. A young Ron Harper showing what he was before the injuries and Ewing, well, being practically unstoppable from that coveted, short mid-range area (he finished with 44 & 17 here). Knicks win in an OT thriller. www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/199101290LAC.html

Glide drops a 40 piece in an elimination game. There are a lot of "myths" surrounding this Houston squad, the main one being "Olajuwon = one man army". I always ask...what about Clyde Drexler? The man actually led Houston in playoff winshares, asissts, steals and had big game after BIG game with dozens of clutch plays. You don't see many of his best games from that run on youtube though. Larry Bird - 28/14/8, Gm 6 vs. Lakers (1984 Finals)

Another all around showcase for Bird on the games biggest stage (Celts lose in a nail biter). To many this was arguably his greatest finals, as everything seemed to come together. Personally I would rank it right there with the Houston series in '86 - games I may do recaps of.
Larry Bird - Passing Highlights vs. Hornets (1990)

Magic shows off his scoring arsenal in this one. Checkout the post moves and face-up skills (such an underrated part of his game). As the late great Chick Hearn put it, The Magic Man used his skills AND brains.

Isiah was almost traded to Knicks I believe right after this season, Isiah as point guard and they could've won it in 1993 and 1994.

I don't think there has been anyone who used every inch of the backboard like the Iceman. He would spin it to where it would just kiss the top of the glass and drop right in.

I wish Larry Bird didn't suffer injuries at all from 1987-1992, we could have seen some of the greatest play in NBA history, we missed out; same with Magic having to retire due to HIV, we missed out.

I became a Celtic fan because of Larry Bird 1979. I was just starting high school. I even got to go to Boston Gardens to see a game. Watching this video my mouth was open. I was slack-jawed. Not often does that happen. I watch a lot of Larry Bird videos. But this game I was just amazed.

Brutal series . First team to 90 won . Knicks adopted that Pistons style . Cheap shot style. Still couldn’t beat the bulls with Jordan . It was close . Bulls would’ve probably swept Detroit if they got passed the Knicks so it’s probably best they didn’t get passed Knicks . Knicks took Bulls to 7 that year . Bulls weren’t prepared for their physical play . They would’ve been prepared for the Pistons.
